Words 2 Craft By December Challenge

Hello!  The time is flying by and soon it will be Christmas…have you finished your shopping yet?  I’m not done, so I’d better get busy!  It’s time for another challenge at Words 2 Craft By.  We’d love for you to play along, so please stop by for some inspiration.  This month’s words  are from Edith Sitwell:

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”

I love the theme of winter and/or Christmas, but for some reason, I had a hard time with this project.  I think it’s probably because I had something specific in mind that I wanted to do, but couldn’t find the stamp set that I needed locally.  This is probably the first project I’ve done in a long time that wasn’t technique-driven.

I started out by going through my scrap box to see what I could use and found some pieces that would work for my background.  For my house, I used Dee’s Distinctively Small Cottage die set, Core’dinations paper, Tim Holtz Texture Fades Woodgrain embossing folder, glittered foam from Hobby Lobby, and part of a cotton ball for the chimney smoke.  I wanted to add some snow to the window panes, but I also wanted to keep my glitter consistent and I was already pushing it with the glitter foam, so no snow there 😦    I used Lawn Fawn’s Stitched Hillside Borders for my snowy landscape, and added my trees from the Elizabeth Craft 5-Part Pine die set.  My sentiment is computer-generated and embossed with my Darice Snowman (Arms Up) folder.  I used Fired Brick Distress Ink spray to color my crinkle ribbon.

I thought the top of the card needed something but I didn’t want to cover up any of the beautiful embossed cardstock.  I decided to add some snowflakes and used 3 different ones from my Tim Holtz Paper Snowflakes thinlit die set.  Before I cut those out, I covered a small scrap of Wendy Vecchi Modeling Film with some Tim Holtz Frosted Film, then afterwards, used my heat tool to shape the snowflakes.  Three ended up being too much for the top, so I added one to the top of  my bow.

That pretty much covers it.  Thanks for stopping by and feel free to leave comments.  I hope to see your project linked up over at Words 2 Craft By!

This makes the second project I’ve seen with the film lately and I want to use it so so bad! I only have black and never know what to do with it… The snowflakes are the perfect accent and if you hadn’t mentioned the snow on the window sills, it would never have occurred to me. We are our own worst critics! ;0 I am in awe of the glitter foam rooftop and cannot wait to pick up a sheet! In fact, I will on my way home today! Yippee! Cheap and fun new crafting materials! 🙂 Love, love this beautiful project. It is worthy of framing, my dear! Hugs, Autumn

Marty, I just love the vintage feel you achieved with this card. All of the elements have that something special I’m gonna call Marty Magic… but that ribbon and snowflakes are amazing! What a wonderful interpretation of our W2CB words. 🙂

A beautiful, beautiful card. I didn’t see what the background was made out of. That is perfect for your wintry cottage.

Marty, this is just another wonderful Christmas card made by your talented hands! I love that embossed background and your cabin looks so cozy with the smoke rising from the chimney. You did a great job with the snow on the rood and drifted up out front. And your red bow is seriously gorgeous! There certainly is no place like home for the holidays!

Oh, thank you for joining our Winter Wishes challenge at Emerald Creek Dares with this lovely card! Hugs! (Sara Emily DT)
