St. Patty’s Hipster Goat

Hello!  It’s time for a new inspirational quote over at Words 2 Craft By!  Our words this month are about St. Patrick’s Day:

A good friend is like a four-leaf clover: hard to find and lucky to have. Irish proverb

I think that’s a fun theme, so  click on the link above to check out the awesome inspiration from my teammates and join in on the fun!  Here’s my project:

My card is actually a St. Patrick’s Day/Birthday card.  My brother-in-law’s  birthday is on St. Patty’s day, so I always use that theme.  This year he’s having a milestone birthday, hence, the word “EPIC.”    My old goat is from the new Tim Holtz “Hipster” stamp set.  When I first saw these, I didn’t care for them until I saw the awesome samples from Tim’s team at Creativation in January.  After that, I just had to have them – LOL!

I decided to keep the card simple for a change and used various papers that I’ve collected the last few years.  The plaid directly under the image is from Authentique.  I believe it’s from the retired “Lucky” collection, and I don’t know the lines of the other papers.  The Irish blessing on the card is from the cut-off strip of the Authentique paper.  I inked it with Vintage Photo distress ink, and used black border stickers to outline the top and bottom.

I stamped my image onto heavy watercolor paper with Ranger black archival ink, them embossed over it with clear powder.  I like to do that when I’m “painting” with my distress inks (which I use on just about everything).  goat

I used various distress inks to color my image.  Since I like to add dimension, I stamped an extra image for a tie and  set of glasses.  I added some Glossy Accents to the glasses before adhering.  I cut out a little shamrock for the lapel, and added some white glossy Nuvo drops.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t always have the best luck with my Nuvo drops, so I add them to my craft mat instead of directly to my project because a lot of them don’t look good.  I have one bottle of a pearly white, and those are usually terrible – they’re harder to squeeze out, so I think the hole opening is too small.  My bottle of pink makes the best ones out of the bottles I’ve tried so far.

Other than the inside of the card, that’s about it – very simple.  Thanks for stopping by and feel free to leave comments.  Don’t forget to play along with our St. Patrick’s Day challenge at Words 2 Craft By!
