Hello Coffee Lovers, it’s time for more coffee!! Love love love the Coffee Lover’s Bloghop!! Here’s my second entry and I apologize for the lengthy post:
Awhile back I was looking for some coffee at the grocery store, something different from my normal mainstream canister of coffee. I admit when I saw this bag, I was really more interested in how I could use it for the blog hop than how it tasted (he he). When you use flavored Coffee-Mate, you don’t need the best coffee out there. Don’t get my wrong, though, I love my Starbucks!!
I started out with a Julie Nutting patterned tag and covered with the coffee bag. I have a piece of paper with coffee beans and embossed with my Tim Holtz “On the Go” embossing folder, and added to the top of the tag (mostly hidden now by flower). Next, I added some coffee stains with my TH “Splatters” stencil, using Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso DI.
My “story” for this tag was that Taylor (my doll stamp) and her hubby opened a new retro-style coffee café in Detroit. “Hubby’s” on the back of the bag and I even made a cool picture frame for him with one of the Julie Nutting Retro chipboard pieces. Unfortunately, one doll and 3 chipboard pieces was one too many, so I’ll use this frame another time.
There are several layers of heat embossing on this frame. I started with a combination of Ranger Silver and Vintage Photo (distress )powders. Next layer was just silver, going back and forth a few more times with the Vintage Photo. The last few layers I sprinkled on Ranger copper, and the last thing I did was use my Pitt Big Brush Pen (Nougat) on it, adding and wiping off, until I was happy.
I colored the chipboard stove with Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso DI and same-colored markers, and also used my Pitt pen. I heat embossed the door handle and knobs with the silver embossing powder then used my Pitt pen same as with the frame. It was difficult not getting Versamark where it wasn’t supposed to go even with the small tip of the Versamarker pen. For the coffee/teapot, I alternated heat embossing between the silver and Vintage Photo powders, then using the Pitt pen again.
I thought Taylor would be perfect for the retro café. She’s stamped (with “Coffee” Archival ink – what else!!) on a piece of JN patterned paper. I don’t know the name of the paper, but I’ve had it awhile, and I used the other side of the paper for her outfit. For her skin, I used Copic markers E000, E11 and E93. For her hair, I used my JN watercolor pencils, 16 and 86. I don’t have many Copic markers and I’m not good with them, but I do try to use them now and then. I used B32 and B24 to add some shading to her blue outfit, and painted the “leggings” with Abandoned Coral DI.
For the top of the tag, I used more of the beautiful flowers given to me by my blog buddy, Autumn. These flowers were originally more of a yellow/tan color and beautiful just the way they were, but I needed blue. I re-colored these with Faded Blue Jeans DOX and water and partially dried with my heat tool. They looked pretty rough, and I decided to crumple them up and leave them to dry overnight. They dried nicely and I added a bit of Vintage Photo DI here and there, and added an old brad that I’ve had for years and years. I like how they turned out for this tag. My sentiment is from the Coffee & Tea clear stamp set by Elizabeth Craft Designs, and if I had a sign die, that sentiment would have been the name of the new café. I added some TH jute behind it and called it a day.
Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the bloghop!!

A very creative way to use the coffee bag! You crack me up, Marty, because I shop like this all the time–the packaging sometimes is the reason behind the purchase. All that much better that this had COFFEE in it! You made a delightful coffee themed project! You were smart to save the hubs for another project–this has perfect balance just as it is. You’ve done a great job with your markers–great shading! Another fabulous make! Sending even more hugs!
