To Daughter on Her Wedding Day

Hello!  We’re in the midst of our Oscar Wilde “Keep Love in Your Heart” quote/themed challenge at Words2CraftBy, so I thought I’d post a little reminder along with a project to inspire you to play along!  I wanted to do something for the Bride specifically, and no, it’s not for my daughter…but someday I will make one for her.

I had a 5″x7″ frame in my stash from the dollar store, and thought it would be nice to put a special poem in there (I searched online for free poems from mothers to daughters on wedding day).  If this was for my daughter, I would use a nicer frame!  To alter the frame, I applied 3 coats of gesso and after it was dry, I painted it with black acrylic paint, wiping off most of it before it dried–I mainly wanted it in the detailed parts of the frame.  Next, I applied TH Brushed Pewter Distress Stain all around the frame, but wiped some off of the detailed areas.  I rubbed Inka Gold (platinum) over the frame and buffed when dry.

 

Since I didn’t have any suitable paper for the wedding gown, I decided to make my own.  I used the TH Doily layering stencil with Faber Caster Glass Bead Glitter Gel and made 3 side-by-side panels.  This was a bit time consuming since I had to let the first “stencil” completely dry before being able to stencil another right next to it, but I think the results were worth it.

I stamped my doll out a few times (Julie Nutting/Prima “Aurora”) and cut out the pieces so I’d have a pattern.   I like dimension, so if I were paper piecing this dress, I would pop up the 2 sides under the bow and the section in the middle below.  That didn’t look right with the bead gel, so I put that piece underneath, plus I glued those pieces flat because extra dimension was too much.  I did ink around all of the edges a bit with Hickory Smoke DI so it didn’t all blend in together.

 

I colored Aurora’s hair with a Prismacolor pencil (Noir) and gamsol, and used Prima/Julie Nutting watercolor pencils (skin and hair) for her skin.  For the gloves, I used Finetec Metallic paints (silver).  Her bow is black suede embossed with WOW! Silver Embossing glitter.  Her crown is glittered with the same embossing glitter and I added some Prima Glass Glitter (Platinum).

 

I knew the printed poem would need to be decorative without overdoing it.  I used my TH Latticework layering stencil and heat embossed with clear embossing powder, then added some sequins.   Noticeable but subtle.

I used TH Crinkly Ribbon to make the bow, which is mostly covered up by that gorgeous Prima flower.
