Student Planner

First of all, my heart goes out to those impacted by the recent hurricanes.  I can’t even imagine.  Those affected by these catastrophic events are in my thoughts and prayers.

We have a new challenge at Words2CraftBy –  head over for some awesome inspiration from the team.   The origin of our quote is unknown, but is frequently credited to Albert Einstein:

“Logic will get you from A to B.  Imagination will take you everywhere.”

Themes could include back to school, kids, books, life lessons, imagination, thinking outside the box.  I decided to go with the school theme – I apologize that my photos aren’t the best.  I took them later in the day and then had issues with the online photo editing tool I use.

I was trying to decide what could I make besides a card when some inspiration came to me via email for a Three-Fold Tag Holder Mini Album from Autumn (SewPaperPaint).  Thanks, Autumn!  Click on the link and you’ll find several examples of this mini album along with tutorials.  My “mini album” is 7 1/2″ tall, 4″ wide (each fold), and the pockets are 3 1/4″ on the front, and not quite 3″ on the back.  When I was working on this, I kept wondering what would be the purpose of a school-themed mini album, but added pockets on both sides to make it into a “planner” (obviously for a young student!).  

I made the tags for bookmarks (with Tim Holtz red jute string) and added Washi tapes and TH Chitchat words for inspiration.  Two of the pockets have assignment sheets added – I found freebies online.

To decorate my chalkboard piece of paper, I used TH stencils with Broken China and Cracked Pistachio DOX for the outer folds, and Fossilized Amber DOX for the center.

On this side, only Fossilized Amber was used for the top portion.

I added a TH Mini Globe for interest.  I cut it out of lightweight chipboard and used Vintage Photo and Pumice Stone Distress EP, then added a little bit of Viva Precious Metal Colour in Olive.  Next, I cut out a round shape for water underneath.  I used Broken China Distress EP, then added some acrylic paints:  Prima/Finnabair Metalliques in Deep Water and Rich Turquoise.  I also added a little bit of white acrylic paint.  I spritzed with water to move the colors around a bit.

Washi tapes were added to all but the center folds, and on the front side, wooden apples were added to each panel.  These are from the Prima School Memories Wood Icons collection.  I painted them last year for my project and didn’t use them, but I remember using red distress inks.  I had also added red foil to one of them, but I left the other 2 as is.  The stars added are from a previous project.  My ribbon was in my stash.

My doll stamp is Julie Nutting’s “Riley”.  I colored her skin with Copics:  E00, E11 and E93.  Her outfit was made from scraps, and I added Glossy Accents to her shoes (you can’t tell from the photos).  Originally, I gave her brown hair but that was too boring, so changed it to blue.
